Starting today on May 11th, Huawei mobile phone users can download Bitcoin wallets directly on their devices.
The world’s third-largest handset maker, Huawei, has already added BTC.com’s Bitcoin wallet in his AppGallery. The news was announced by Alejandro de la Torre, BTC.com’s vice president of business operations. BTC.com Wallet will be the first cryptocurrency app on the Huawei AppGallery. It will be also installed by default in all new devices of Huawei.
This move will have a major impact on the Chinese market. China has always been a hotbed of cryptocurrency. Access to apps like BTC.com’s is limited in China as the government blocks Android’s Google Play Store and some parts of Apple’s App Store. Earlier the government had banned the cryptocurrency exchanges and ICO activities, but people can still own cryptocurrencies.
De la Torre said in a telephone interview:
“It’s a good opportunity to tap into the Chinese market. The use of cashless payments with apps is very big and the traditional banking system is lacking, so there’s a good use case for crypto payments to grow there.”
BTC.com also operates one of the world’s largest Bitcoin mining pool, while the owner behind it is mining hardware maker Bitmain Technologies. In addition, Huawei is also considering developing a blockchain mobile smartphone.
Jaime Gonzalo, Vice President of Huawei Mobile Services, said:
“From our leadership position in China, the tip of the spear of mobile payments, we expect to see massive growth in global cryptocurrency adoption habits in the near future.”
