Past Master of Investment and Guru in All Situations: US billionaire Warren Buffett advises on communication optimization.

There are already books by Warren Buffett full of proverbs and wisdom. To a start-up founder, the investment star and multi-billionaire now said, “What’s his most important advice to start your career?” Improves your communication skills; learn to express yourself clearly and understandably.

Michael Hood, the co-founder of Canadian start-up Voiceflow, which wants to make it easy for non-programmers to easily produce so-called skills for Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa, was on the way to a gala event in Toronto with Buffett. In the backseat of a limousine, Hood Buffett asked, “What’s your tip, you’re talking to people ages 21, 22 who are just leaving school, so what tip can you give them?”

“It’s very simple,” says Buffett. “The way to increase your own value by 50 percent — at least — is to improve your communication skills, both in writing and verbally.”

The video with this advice Hood posted on his LinkedIn page.

“If you can not communicate,” Buffett continues. “It’s like winking at a girl in the dark — nothing happens, you can be the brightest in the world, but you must be able to communicate like that.”

Buffett, which the US magazine “Forbes” currently estimates at a fortune of around $81 billion, is by no means unique to this view. British businessman and billionaire Richard Branson (Virgin Group), for example, has already drawn attention to the importance of communication for personal success (“ If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, you have to be a storyteller “).

Buffett himself had also previously pointed to his special relationship with the topic of communication, as the US broadcaster CNBC reports.

“In high school and college, I hated talking in front of people,” he said in an interview in 2009. “I just could not do it, I messed it up on a regular basis.”

Later, he took a course with the Dale Carnegie organization, which helped him a lot. The diploma of this is still hanging in his office today, says Buffett. The course changed his life!

Most writers waste tremendous words to say nothing. I’m not one of them.
