In recent years, Apple has done many things right and recently reaped the industry’s leading edge with an unprecedented stock market valuation of $ 1 trillion. Apple’s future is even more incredible because the iPhone was just the beginning.
Always well-informed and respected, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes the future of Apple’s product line-up is well-known. Contrary to previous reports Kuo firmly believes in an independent Apple car. Accordingly, the iPhone manufacturer would introduce such an “Apple Car” in the years 2023 to 2025, thus revolutionizing the automotive sector in much the same way as the mobile industry with the iPhone used to. In his justification he cites several points for his point of view:
Due to new technologies, there is an enormous need for replacement in the automotive sector, comparable to the smartphone market of 10 years ago.
Apple’s pioneering role in a variety of technologies (such as AR, augmented reality) is redefining the car and would make the Apple Car significantly different from other products.
Apple’s service area would grow significantly as it entered the auto finance market.
Apple has the ability to better integrate hardware, software, and services than current competitors, whether in the automotive or entertainment industries.
A little further in this study of an Apple car for the distant future — better now ever save for it?
Apple’s “Project Titan”: Is there more behind it?
Kuo’s analysis surprises at first glance. It is true that there is a secret project by Apple with “Titan”, but it should hide behind no independent electric car, but rather a technology for autonomous vehicles. However, Apple’s plans may have changed again: just a few days ago, the change of Tesla manager Doug Field was known to Apple. He previously worked for the iPhone maker and now returns to his base “strengthened” after five years. At Apple, Field will work for “Project Titan”, although this is officially not confirmed.
That’s how you imagine the cockpit of an Apple car:
In the planning for 2020: Apple’s AR glasses
Even before the automobile, however, Apple will introduce another, novel product. For the year 2020, Kuo predicts data glasses. The AR headset fits in Apple’s current strategy, as the Californians are already working intensively on the software implementation of AR with the ARKit for iPhone and iPad. A proper eyewear for the augmented reality is obvious.
Kuo inspires several rumors at this point, but they also speculate about Apple data glasses in the near future. The AR glasses should, therefore, have their own processor and a new, iOS-based “rOS” (reality operating system).
